HOPE Kitchen
HOPE Kitchen is a charity based in Oban, Argyll. Our objectives are the advancement of services which provide food, shelter and companionship to vulnerable and marginalised people living within the sub-local authority area of Oban, Lorn & the Isles. Where possible and appropriate, to also address the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the people attending Hope Kitchen.
From its inception, HOPE has been run entirely by volunteers who organise both drop in sessions where clients are offered a light snack of a hot filled roll and soup , and evening sessions where a cooked meal is provided. Our annual turnover was under £8,000 mainly from donations from local churches, businesses and individuals. This was not enough to pay any salaries or to maintain the level of service required by the demand of the clients.
Over the last 12 months, we had to relocate to larger premises due to the number of clients attending. This resulted in a substantial increase in rent, food and heating bills. It was also decided by the Trustees that paid staff would be required to manage the facility and the day to day running of the kitchen.
Steve Chalmers was approached as we were aware of his past successes in obtaining grant funding. We purchased his Platinum service and within 3 months of submitting grant applications, we were awarded £15,000 towards our costs. Within 6 months, we have now been awarded over £50,000 to support a Service Manager and a Catering Co-Ordinator for 12 months. Steve knew exactly what we needed to do to become eligible, where to apply and how to prove how valuable our project is.
We could not believe how quickly the money came in. We learnt so much from our consultation, he not only applied for the money but taught us about every step of what he was doing and why he was doing it; as well as keeping us legal by updating all of the necessary policies and procedures.
Thank you so much.
