THE GOLDEN RULE...A GOLDEN 'HELLO!'
If you are applying for any funding whether big or small get on the phone to the relevant grants officer and chat about your project and whether its suitable for the grant criteria...this will achieve four things.
1. It will save you time if you aren't eligible for the funding they will tell you straight away
How many hours have been wasted filling in forms just to go straight in the bin when it arrives,? Save yourself a few days work and get on the phone!
2. You will be able to build a relationship with the grant provider.
They will remember you, your accent, your demeanour, your passion for change, your humour, everything, when your application arrives they will feel like they know you...YES this is a sales pitch!!
3. The forms are too small to say it all!
The funding applications are so limited and small you can say everything that doesn't fit in that little 500 words box and when they read your application your phone call will fill in the gaps!
4. They will answer the questions for you!
Believe it or not the grant officers want to help you!! If you don't understand something they get paid to tell you the answer...even if you do understand, pretend you don't and ask them how to word it, they will boost your answer from a 6 out of 10 to a 10 out of 10 on their score sheet!
